Still: Three Days of Fish - Peter Hoogendoorn

Three Days of Fish** will have its world premiere in the main competition Crystal Globe. The second feature film by screenwriter and director Peter Hoogendoorn is produced by Circe Films in co-production with Kaap Holland and the Belgian production house A Private View. Sales are handled by Heretic. SEE NL spoke to Hoogendoorn about his film, in the run up to Karlovy Vary.

Three Days of Fish is a dryly funny road movie in which we follow a father and son during their annual three-day reunion in Rotterdam. Gerrie (Ton Kas) lives in the Algarve, but travels annually to Rotterdam for medical checks and to reunite with his only son Dick (Guido Pollemans). In their awkward communication, the two men hunt for each other's affection and Dick thinks this could be his father's last visit.

A selection of films to which the Amsterdam company BALDR Film is associated as co-producer, have also been selected for Karlovy Vary. The Crystal Globe competition presents the international premiere of Banzo** by Portuguese filmmaker Margarida Cardoso. The world premiere of Stranger by Zhengfan Yang (China) has been included in the Proxima competition for daring works by both young filmmakers and experienced authors. The Special Screenings program features In the Land of Brothers* by Alireza Ghasemi and Raha Amirfazli (Iran), which won the Best Director prize at Sundance at the beginning of this year. And All We Imagine as Light* by Payal Kapadia is part of the Horizons programme, after winning the Grand Prix in Cannes Official Selection - Competition last month. We interviewed BALDR Film producer Frank Hoeve about the films. 

Three other Dutch co-productions have entered the Horizons programme. The Invasion by Sergei Loznitsa, who we interviewed when his film was one of Cannes' Special Screenings in May. Like all of the director’s recent works, it was made through his Dutch company, Atoms & Void, and he produced it alongside his partner in the company, Maria Choustova. Minh Quý Truong's Viet and Nam (last month in Cannes - Un Certain Regards), which is co-produced by An Original Picture (sales handled by Pyramide International). And When the Light Breaks by Rúnar Rúnarsson, which was also included at Cannes: as the opening film for Un Certain Regard and is co-produced by Revolver Amsterdam.
