DMZ Docs is a Korean film festival for documentaries, the largest of it's kind in Asia. 5 Dutch (co-)produced documentaries are presented in this year's line-up.
Still: Sexual Healing
The 15th DMZ Docs takes place between the 14th and 21st of September. The festival primarily focuses on introducing documentaries from Asia and puts the spotlight on outstanding works all around the world.
Elsbeth Fraanje's feature film Sexual Healing had it's Asian premiere in the Verité programme. The documentary is themed around sexual relationships, the experience of understanding oneself and the pleasure of interaction. The screening was followed by an extended Docs Talk with the filmmaker.
Another Asian premiere was screening in the Frontier Competition. Eduardo Williams' The Human Surge 3 portrays different friend groups trying to get away from their depressing jobs, meandering towards the mystery of new possibilities. The film is minority co-produced by Revolver, Amsterdam. Sales is handled by Rediance Films.
5 SEASONS OF REVOLUTION also had it's Asian premiere in the Verité programme. Born in Damascus, Syria, filmmaker Lina starts to report on the events around her until she is compelled to become a war reporter and unexpected narrator of her own destiny. Docmakers is the Dutch minority co-producer of the film.
Short docs An Asian Ghost Story (Bo Wang) and Center, Ring, Mall (Mateo Vega) got selected for the Essay programme at the festival. Both films had their Korean premiere. Bo Wang's film is produced by Vines Films.
