Dutch Films off to Brazil

Belas Artes Á La Carte and See NL present ‘Around the World: the Netherlands’

This month Brazilian streaming platform Belas Artes Á La Carte, in collaboration with See NL, present the online film festival Around the World: the Netherlands (Volta ao Mundo: Holanda). During two weeks, starting April 14th, members of the streaming service everywhere in Brazil can get a taste of Dutch cinema.

The programme consists of seven feature films and one feature-length documentary from the Netherlands, all of which have been very successful in the international festival circuit: Abel (1986), Borgman* (2013) and Nr. 10** (2021) by Alex van Warmerdam, Twin Sisters* (2002) by Ben Sombogaart, Only the Best for Our Son (documentary, 2014) by Monique Nolte, Prince* (2015) by Sam de Jong, Take Me Somewhere Nice** (2019) by Ena Sendijarevic and I Don’t Wanna Dance* (2021) by Flynn von Kleist.

Besides veteran Ben Sombogaart and three up-and-coming directors, the highlight of the festival is Alex van Warmerdam, one of the Netherlands’ most important contemporary auteur filmmakers, who has won numerous awards. Van Warmerdam’s work is well known at film festivals in Brazil and some of his films, such as Little Tony*, have been released in theatres in Brazil and Nr.10 has its Brazilian premiere during Belas Artes Á La Carte.

Belas Artes Á La Carte is a streaming platform that caters to cinephiles in Brazil. Their catalogue includes films from all over the world and different periods: contemporary, classics, cult films, work by well-known and award-winning directors and films that are worth being watched over and over again and that touch the hearts of true film lovers. Á La Carte regularly presents film festivals dedicated to a special theme or with a country focus.
