The Netherlands will be well represented at the upcoming edition of CPH:DOX in Copenhagen, with a Dutch title selected for the prestigious Next:Wave competition and multiple minority co-productions featured across the programme, including as the opening film.
Still: Like Any Other Mortal - Maria Molina Peiró
In the Next:Wave competition, Like Any Other Mortal* by Maria Molina Peiró has been selected. Produced by near/by film, the film unfolds across two seemingly distant landscapes. On a planet in the Solar System, a remote robot searches for minerals and signs of life. Light-years away, an old miner digs through mountains of mineral waste in search of the traces of his childhood village. Artificial mountains that, blast after blast, have shaped a Martian landscape the local tourism campaigns proudly advertise as “Río Tinto, Mars on Earth.”
Also featured in the competition is Kabul, Between Prayers* by Aboozar Amini, produced by Muyi Film and Silk Road Film Salon. While on duty at a checkpoint in Kabul, Samim stops a taxi with a drunk woman in the back seat and calms down two drivers after a collision. Meanwhile, he questions his troubled marriage, and his extremist beliefs clash with the unpredictability of real life. The film had its world premiere at the Venice Film Festival.
Dutch producers are also involved in several other striking documentaries presented at this year’s festival:
The opening film, Mariinka by Pieter-Jan De Pue (NL co-prod. Submarine).
