The Netherlands has a strong presence at the 76th edition of the Berlinale with ten Dutch (co-) productions across the different programme sections of the festival taking place from 12 to 22 February.

Still: Truly Naked - Muriel d'Ansembourg (Isabella Films)

Truly Naked** by Muriel d’Ansembourg is set to world premiere in the competitive Perspectives sidebar focusing on debut features. The film is produced by Els Vandevorst and Isabella Depeweg for Isabella Films in co-production with Cinéma Defacto (FR), Ici et Là Productions (FR) and Prime Time (BE). The film is set in the UK starring a British cast and tells the story of an introverted teenager who’s only ever experienced intimacy through the lens while working for his father’s pornography business, and must step out from behind the camera when a feisty classmate challenges him to embrace real connection.

D’Ansembourg graduated from the London Film School with the short Good Night (2012) that was nominated for a BAFTA in 2013. Her most recent short film Fuck-a-Fan* (2024), which premiered at Tribeca Festival, was also produced by Isabella Films and continued her exploration into the world of adult entertainment.

Mees Peijnenburg’s second feature film A Family** will celebrate it‘s world premiere in the Generation 14plus competition. The film is produced by Juliet at Pupkin (NL) and The Reunion (BE) and international sales are handled by Paradise City Sales. The film follows teenagers Eli and Nina who are trying, each in their own way, to keep their heads above water while their parents’ marriage dissolves into a messy divorce. Peijnenburg’s first feature, Paradise Drifters**, screened at the Berlinale in Generation 14plus in 2020. His short films Even Cowboys Get to Cry and Un creux dans mon coeur* both premiered in Generation 14plus, respectively in 2014 and in 2015.

The Berlinale Shorts competition includes Zuza Banasińska’s Kontrewers*. Banasińska returns to the Berlinale with the experimental short that they also co-produced together with Polish ALE ALE and French Vents Contraires. It tells the story of the ghost of a possessed girl that, trapped for centuries within a stone, encounters the director’s 102-year-old grandmother. Video Power is on board for festival distribution and sales for Kontrewers. The selection follows the success of Grandmamauntistercat*, which won the Teddy Award at the 74th Berlinale and was shortlisted for the European Film Awards 2026.
