Dutch short films Wander to Wonder and I'm Not a Robot have both been nominated for the Oscars®, in the Animated Short Film & the Live Action Short Film categories.

Director Nina Gantz and producer Stienette Bosklopper, with their short film Wander to Wonder, have been nominated for an Oscar® in the Animated Short Film category. The film was produced by Circe Films (Stienette Bosklopper) and Kaap Holland Film (Maarten Swart). I’m Not a Robot written and directed by Victoria Warmerdam and produced by Trent of OAK Motion Pictures), is one of the five films nominated in the Live Action Short Film category.
The anarchic stop motion animation Wander to Wonder is about three tiny humans who star in a kids’ TV series called “Wander to Wonder”. After the creator dies, they are left alone in the studio. Struggling to find enough to eat, they continue to make increasingly strange episodes for their fans. The short film world premiered in Venice and was recently nominated for a BAFTA, won Best Short at the British Independent Film Awards and was nominated for the European Film Awards. With selections for over 140 festivals and winning 43 awards at international festivals, including SXSW, Animation Is Film Festival, Tampere Film Festival and Anima Brussels. World sales are handled by Miyu.
Still: I'm Not a Robot by Victoria Warmerdam
I’m Not a Robot tells the story of music producer Lara who, after several unsuccessful attempts to complete a CAPTCHA, sets out to answer the disturbing question of whether she's a robot. With over 190 festival selections to date, the short film has qualified no less than four times for submitting to the Oscar through selections and wins at Sitges Film Festival, Bengaluru International Short Film Festival, San Jose International Short Film Festival and Manhattan Short. Recently Victoria Warmerdam’s short film has been acquired by The New Yorker for worldwide distribution. Furthermore, Victoria and Trent are working on a feature length adaptation of I’m Not a Robot alongside US production company Rearview Pictures.
The last Dutch short animation to receive a nomination in the Animated Short Film category was A Single Life by Job, Joris and Marieke in 2015.
The last time a Dutch short film was nominated for an Oscar®in the Live Action Short category was in 1963, when both Pan by Herman van der Horst and Big City Blues by Charles Huguenot van der Linden received nominations.

Nominated in the Documentary Feature Film category is Soundtrack to a Coup d’État by Johan Grimonprez and minority co-produced by Dutch production outfit BALDR Film.
Soundtrack to a Coup d’État world premiered at Sundance, where it won the Special Jury Award for Cinematic Innovation Award. Since then it has been traveling the world screening at among others the BFI London Film Festival, CPH:DOX and MoMA Doc Fortnight. It was nominated for Best documentary at the European Film Awards. In the United States Soundtrack to a Coup d’État received a nomination for the Gotham Awards, the Independent Spirit Awards and has won three IDA Documentary Awards.
Belgian/French/Dutch co-production Beautiful Men by Nicolas Keppens and co-produced by Ka-Ching Cartoons is nominated for the Animated Short Film Oscar®. It has had an impressive festival run since its world premiere at Film Fest Gent, screening at festivals as Aspen Shortfest, International Film Festival Rotterdam, Clermont-Ferrand International Short Film Festival, and winning awards at among others the International Animation Film Festival Annecy and Anima Brussels.
The 97th Academy Awards® ceremony will take place on March 2.
