Gust Van Den Berghe

A magnetically born boy dreams of becoming an artist.

The Magnet Man tells the story of Lucien Vindeveughel, who is born magnetically. Tableware sticks to him, but his father tells him not to show it. He secretly dreams of a life as an artist and wants to conjure little birds. When World War I breaks out he comes into contact with a travelling circus, where he not only becomes an artist, but also grows up. However, once his old life draws him back in, he comes home disappointed, noticing that nothing is as it was before.
