After spending the night in a remote hotel, Mr. K is stuck in a claustrophobic nightmare when he discovers that he can't leave the building.
Traveling magician Mr. K (Crispin Glover) is down on his luck. Business is slow and the few gigs he has picked up along the road have left him feeling his life is going nowhere. When he books a room in a remote hotel, he thinks it is merely a place for the night, but in this reality, he is Alice and the hotel is his Rabbit Hole. When Mr. K (Crispin Glover) wakes up the next morning and prepares for his departure, he is shocked that he is unable to find the exit. As he runs through the maze-like corridors, he hears strange noises coming from the building and meets a series of curious inhabitants who have formed different societies within the walls of the hotel. He meets the brilliant, self-centred Gaga (Sunny Melles) with her brutish orchestra, The Francophile Monchien sisters (Fionnula Flanagan and Dearbhla Molloy) with their unsettling taste for the morbid, and the workaholic Chef (Bjørn Sundquist) with his bustling kitchen and a deep-rooted passion for eggs. Before he knows it Mr. K has lost his suitcase, his coat and his pants as he gets pulled into the population. Finally, he is set to work in the breakfast kitchen where he finds companionship and love as well as respect and professional success. For a while he almost forgets about wanting to leave. But he can’t suppress the uneasy feeling that there is something wrong. Why are the water pipes bursting? What is the strange vein structure behind the wallpaper and why are slogans being written on the corridor walls calling for a liberator? This makes Mr. K increasingly worried. He begins to suspect that no one has ever left the building at all. Then Mr. K comes to a far more shocking conclusion. The building is slowly but steadily shrinking. Mr. K tries to mobilize his friends in the kitchen to help him search for a way out. But confronted with the fear of facing things they can’t control or understand, they choose to protect and uphold the familiar lie. The entire breakfast department quickly turns on Mr. K and throws him out of the kitchen. Abandoned, alone and scared he starts mapping out the corridors. His only hope is to find a sense to the building’s layout before it is too late. Meanwhile the building is slowly collapsing under the strain of the shrinking. The decay becomes increasingly obvious and a growing group of tenants begin to gather around Mr. K, calling him the liberator. But as the situation gets worse and there is still no sign of an exit, fear makes the followers aggressive and finally the mob turns on Mr. K. He is forced to barricade himself in his room, barely escaping with his life. Stuck more hopelessly than ever, Mr. K is about to give up. But just then, he makes a bizarre discovery that will lead him back onto the path towards his true destiny.
