In an old damp house former Wehrmacht officer Max tries to find the Jewish loved ones he lost during WW2, but past and present merge and he becomes entangled in his memories.

In an old damp house German conductor and former Wehrmacht officer Max struggles with his memories. He lived in this house during the war and loved the Jewish mother and daughter he was staying with. But they died, and now images and sounds from the past and present penetrate elderly Max's brain. He sees intruders, a tank on the street, commandos dragging him away. Sheets of score music dance through the air. Curtains move gently in the wind. Music floats around him.
