THE MANAGER is an intimate and stylized film showing managers during performance reviews with subordinates. Behind closed doors, we see how unequal power relations lead to role-play between the two parties. In search of a modern and empathetic style of leadership, managers sign up for training. This raises the question whether modern leadership is possible at all in a system where numbers and returns are paramount.
