Black comedy Krazy House by Steffen Haars and Flip van der Kuil is selected for the upcoming edition of the Sundance Film Festival and will world premiere in the legendary Midnight section. Krazy House is produced by Kaap Holland Film in co-production with writers/directors Steffen and Flip (North-American sales: XYZ).

Steffen Haars and Flip van der Kuil first received international recognition for their debut feature New Kids Turbo (2010) followed by New Kids Nitro (2011), which both screened at many genre film festivals, including Fantastic Fest (Austin), Fantasia (Montréal) and Sitges International Fantastic Festival.
Starring an international cast Krazy House** is a dark comedy set in the 1990s about religious homemaker Bernie and his sitcom family. When Russian workers in Bernie’s house turn out to be criminals, they make Bernie and his family tear the place up in search of some old hidden loot. In order to free himself, Bernie has to man up and save his imprisoned family, all the while going slowly crazy.
The protagonists are played by Nick Frost (the English actor know for among others Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz), Alicia Silverstone (Clueless, Batman & Robin) and Kevin Connolly (Entourage, John Q). Other important roles are for Dutch actors Gaite Jansen (Line of Duty, Peaky Blinders), Walt Klink (Rabbit Hole, The English), Chris Peters (Tonio, About That Life) and Belgian actor Jan Bijvoet (Peaky Blinders, Borgman).
Besides Krazy House, two Dutch minority co-productions are also set to celebrate their world premiere at Sundance. The feature In the Land of Brothers* is selected for the World Cinema Dramatic Competition and the documentary Soundtrack to a Coup d’Etat* is selected for the World Cinema Documentary Competition. Both films are co-produced by Amsterdam-based BALDR Film.
Iranian/French/Dutch co-production In the Land of Brothers by Iranian directors Raha Amirfazli and Alireza Ghasemi tells the story of three members of an extended Afghan family start their lives over in Iran as refugees, unaware they face a decades-long struggle ahead to be “at home”. International sales are handled by Alpha Violet.
Soundtrack to a Coup d’Etat is a co-production between Belgium, France and the Netherlands in which Belgian filmmaker Johan Grimonprez explores the post-colonial struggle for Congo’s resources, told from the unique perspective of Andrée Blouin, a neglected pioneer of female emancipation and independence throughout Africa. The 2024 Sundance Film Festival takes place from January 18 to to January 28.
