The latest film by director Deniz Tortum and artist Kathryn Hamilton, Our Ark depicts “a mind-boggling techno-utopian vision.” This thought-provoking and visually stunning essay film captures human efforts to create a virtual replica of the real world through 3D models as if ecological collapse could be staved off through some digital Noah’s Ark of beasts and objects.

Our Ark was awarded Best Short Film at the 41st Istanbul Film Festival and was selected for numerous international film festivals, including IDFA, Hot Docs, True/False FF, MOMI First Look, Imagine Science Film Festival, BAFICI, Dokufest, Rooftop Films, Glasgow Short, Maryland, Environmental Film Festival in the Nation's Capital among others.

"At its core, Our Ark explores the conflict between the limits of technology and the urgent need for action on the climate crisis," said Tortum and Hamilton. "As we continue to bring our world to the brink of ecological catastrophe, the film asks us to consider the impact of our actions and the ways in which technology may be distracting us from the real problem at hand."

Our Ark is produced by the Institute of Time. Festival distribution is handled by Eye Experimental. The short documentary is supported by the Netherlands Film Fund.
