Dutch docs at Visions du Reel 2023

The line-up includes two world premieres

The Netherlands are represented by three outstanding documentary films at the upcoming Visions du Réel festival. The festival, which takes place between April 21 and 30, also presents an industry focus on the Benelux.

(...) by Karina Beumer

(...)* by Karina Beumer is celebrating its world premiere in the International Medium Length & Short Film Competition. Ron writes a book about living with his Acquired Brain Injury (ABI), causing him to get lost and to forget. The moment that his daughter finds out that Ron forgot about her, she decides to turn his book into a film.

Dutch minority co-production Planet B is world premiering in the Grand Angle programme. Planet B, directed by Pieter van Eecke and co-produced by BALDR Film, follows fourteen-year-old Bo and her best fried Lina, who decide to take up the fight against climate change and join Extinction Rebellion.

Love is Not an Orange* is the story of how a group of Moldavian girls growing up in the 1990s encountered a crossroads in history after their country gained independence. It is a Dutch minority co-production directed by Otilia Babara and co-produced by Basalt Film. The film world premiered at Dok Leipzig and went on winning the Silver Eye Award at Ji.hlava IDFF, among others.

This year the festival organizes a special industry focus on the Benelux countries: Switzerland meets Benelux. In 2023, delegations from Belgium, the Netherlands and Luxembourg are coming to Nyon to meet Swiss producers and representatives of public funds and television to encourage co-production, networking and collaboration. The program is organized in partnership with the Federal Office of Culture (FOC), Flanders Image, Wallonie Bruxelles Images, SEE NL and Film Fund Luxemburg.
