Heddy Honigmann Honoured in France

A Honigmann retrospective at Centre Pompidou in Paris

The Centre Pompidou in Paris pays homage to Heddy Honigmann, the Dutch-Peruvian documentary filmmaker who sadly passed away last year. The Bibliothèque publique d’information is organizing a retrospective of her work from February 24 to 27, 2023.

Heddy Honigmann

Since the screening of Metal and Melancholy by Cinéma du Réel in 1994, the Parisian arts and culture institute has always supported Heddy and her films. In November 2011, the Centre Pompidou's Bibliothèque publique d'information hosted Heddy!, the biggest retrospective ever in France of the Dutch-Peruvian director.

The current homage in the Centre Pompidou takes us on a journey between Amsterdam, Paris, Bosnia and Latin America, with films such as Forever, Crazy, O Amor Natural and her last film No hay camino*. Several French and Dutch guests who had a special connection with Heddy, will be present at the screenings and will introduce the films to the public.

Besides the BPI, several other French festivals and organizations pay tribute to the work of Heddy Honigmann. Last January the Auditorium du Louvre screened Around the World in Fifty Concerts*, as part of the Journées internationales du film sur l'art. The festival Filmer le Travail will show two of Honigmann’s films during its 14th edition (February 17 and 26): Metal and Melancholy and The Underground Orchestra. Le Lieu Documentary in Strasbourg will screen a selection of her films in March.
