The ten European Shooting Stars 2023 were handpicked by the jury from a pool of 27 nominees. With a four-day intensive customised programme, organized by European Film Promotion, European Shooting Stars provides an international networking platform for the selected talent to meet journalists, casting directors, producers and filmmakers in Berlin. It offers a unique opportunity to create the professional network needed to embark on an international career. The programme culminates in a celebration of the talent at an Awards Ceremony at the Berlinale Palast on Monday February 20th, during which each actor will be honoured with the European Shooting Stars Award.

Yannick Jozefzoon started acting in 2002 with theatre group DNA and appeared in several film- and television productions at a young age. In 2015 he graduated from the Academy of Dramatic Arts in Maastricht as an actor (Bachelor of Arts). After that he played in films and tv series such as Boy 7* and The Hero** and in theater productions of companies Het Nationale Theater, Fabuleus and Likeminds and three solo performances in the Netherlands and Belgium. Appearances in film- and television productions including Hollands Hope, Captain Nova** and In Blue** followed. In 2018 he was nominated for a Golden Calf Award (Dutch national film award) for the film Tom Adelaar* by Gonzalo Fernandez. He then had roles in the series Amsterdam Vice, Déjà Vu and Bonnie & Clyde.

In 2022 Yannick stars in three features films: FEMI* by Dwight Fagbamila (world premiere at Warsaw International Film Festival), Piece of My Heart** by Dana Nechushtan (world premiere at Tallinn Black Nights) and Sputum* by Dan Geesin (world premiere at Imagine Film festival). For his role in FEMI Yannick received his second Golden Calf Award nomination as Best Leading Actor. Other leading parts include the Dutch film Black Girl Magic for Videoland, the Belgian tv series Geldwolven for Streamz and next year he stars in the big primetime NPO1 series De Life.

The Shooting Star jury was enthusiastic about the Netherlands’ Yannick Jozefzoon as “he has exhibited his versatility as an actor in his many screen roles. In Dwight Fagbamila’s “FEMI,” he displays a raw, yet controlled energy combined with a sensitivity as the distressed father to be, struggling to come to terms with his father’s suicide. He brings an intense conviction to this toxic male character, expressing perfectly the inner turmoil of the young man.”

Throughout its 25 plus years, European Shooting Stars has been an important stepping-stone for the selected talent’s international careers – notable Shooting Stars of recent years include: Matilda de Angelis (AtlasThe Undoing), Bill Scarsgård (It), Carey Mulligan (Promising Young WomanThe Great Gatsby), Alba Rohrwacher (Happy as Lazzaro) and Oscar-winner Alicia Vikander (BeckettTomb Raider).

Previous Dutch Shooting Stars include Hanna van Vliet, Martijn Lakemeier, Bilal Wahib, Jonas Smulders, Hannah Hoekstra, Reinout Scholten van Aschat, Abbey Hoes, Marwan Kenzari, Sylvia Hoeks, Lotte Verbeek, Halina Reijn and Fedja van Huêt.

The other Shooting Stars 2023 beside Yannick Jozefzoon are: Joely Mbundu (Belgium), Alina Tomnikov (Finland), Leonie Benesch (Germany), Thorvaldur Kristjansson (Iceland), Benedetta Porcaroli (Italy), Kristine Kujath Thorp (Norway), Judith State (Romania), Gizem Erdogan (Sweden) and Kayije Kagame (Switzerland).
