Oink for Best Animated Feature Film
Dutch feature animation film Oink submitted to Oscars
The stopmotion animated feature film Oink by Mascha Halberstad has been submitted to the 95th Academy Awards in the category Best Animated Feature Film. It is the first time in history that a Dutch stopmotion animated feature film has been submitted in this category.

Oink**celebrated its world premiere at the Berlin International Film Festival earlier this year as the opening film of the Generation Kplus section. Only two weeks later it opened the New York International Children’s Film Festival. And an impressive festival track record followed with selections at, among many others, Malmö International Children's and Young People's Film Festival – BUFF, Munich International Film Festival, Busan International Kids & Youth Film Festival – BIKY, Giffoni International Film Festival, Baden International Animation Film Festival – Fantoche and the Copenhagen International Children's Film Festival – Buster. In addition it is one of the top favorites at the Golden Calves awards ceremony, the most prestigious awards within the Dutch film sector. It is nominated in five categories, including Best Film, Best Director and Best Screenplay. The prizes are awarded during the Golden Calves Gala, on 30 September 2022.
Oink is the first feature-length stop-motion film by animator Mascha Halberstad (Munya and Me, The Big Hummimummi Christmas Special*) and is based on the book De Wraak van Knor by Tosca Menten. The screenplay has been written by Fiona van Heemstra and the film has been produced by Viking Film. Sales are being handled by LevelK.
The film tells the story of 9-year-old Babs who receives a pig named Oink as a present from her grandfather, she convinces her parents to let her keep it - on the condition that Oink follows a course in puppy training. But her parents are not the biggest threat to Oink, because her grandfather is secretly taking part in the sausage competition organized by The Society for Meat Products from Fresh Pigs.
The Academy will announce the 5 nominated films in the Best Animated Feature Film category on January 24th. The 95th awards ceremony will take place on March 12th, 2023.
