The film is a journey through the dark side of Europe with teenage refugees as our guides. Every day teenagers who have fled their war-torn countries try to cross Europe’s borders in search of protection and a better life. They travel through a shadow world of minefields, bears, fast-flowing rivers, smugglers and border guards. ‘The game’ is their bitterly ironic term for trying to cross borders. Along their long and dangerous passage, they grow up fast.

Shadow Game is a transmedia project consisting of the feature-length documentary, a short doc web series, an adventure game and a photo series. The film has received several international awards. Shadow Game world premiered at Movies that Matter where it was awarded with the Dutch Movies Matter Award. After that, the film won both the Grand Geneva Award and the Youth Jury Award at the Geneva Int. Film Festival and Forum on Human Rights (FIFDH). Recently, the film won the Golden Calf for Best documentary at the Netherlands Film Festival. Furthermore, Shadow Game was selected for international film festivals such as DOK.fest Munich, Lucas Int. Children’s Film Festival, Berlin Human Rights FF and Silbersalz science & Media Festival.
