Pupkin launches the new label Juliet. By doing this, the producer intends on creating a defined second profile. Pupkin will keep focused on true (crime-) stories. Juliet will concentrate on encouraging and witty stories with a focus on cross-over and family productions.
For the past ten years creative producers Iris Otten and Pieter Kuijpers have found a way of developing their own distinct signature within Pupkin. To make a clear distinction between these two profiles, Juliet was founded. The business end shall remain in the hands of Sander van Meurs.
Juliet sprung from the desire to produce films and series that contribute to an optimistic society and inspire new generations. The new label produces encouraging and witty titles, with a focus on cross-over and family productions. Iris Otten adds:
“With Juliet we will be dedicating ourselves mainly to women between thirty and fifty years old, who will bring along their partner or friends to our films in the theatre and together with children can enjoy our family content.”
Juliet will be led creatively by Iris Otten and Nathalie van der Burg. They have been working together at Pupkin since 2009 as producer and delegate producer respectively. In the past few years they have been responsible for successful features such as Quality Time, Take Me Somewhere Nice (both selected for the Tiger competition at IFFR) and Paradise Drifters (selected by Berlinale), the Emmy-nominated productions Penguins and Pastries and Boys and Golden Calf-winners The Peter Pan Man, We Will Never Be Royals and Seven Little Criminals. At this time they are working on the high-end family series Lampie, based on the successful children’s book by Annet Schaap.
Pupkin is part of the French Newen through the Tuvalu Media Group, a network of production houses such as De Mensen in Belgium (Undercover), CAPA in France (Versailles), Nimbus in Denmark (The Bridge) and more recently iZen in Spain (El Cid). Pupkin has a strong focus on high end drama and produces for the theatre, the public broadcaster, RTL/Videoland and international platforms.
