One of the bigger Asian film festivals, Taipei Film Festival, starts today and there are two Dutch films in competition: Dead & Beautiful** by David Verbeek and Feast* by Tim Leyendekker. See NL takes a look at the Dutch nominees.
As part of the Taipei Film Awards, Dead & Beautiful is nominated for two categories: Best Cinematography (Jasper Wolf) and Best Art Design (Elsje de Bruijn). Produced by Lemming Film in co-production with House on Fire International, Dead & Beautiful revolves around a group of nouveau-riche youngsters transformed into vampires after a wild night out. Bewildered at first, the group realises they feel even stronger, more attractive and more invincible than ever before. As they strain to make sense of their new situation, they lose themselves in a twisted game, taking their new vampire skills onto the streets. Sales is handled by Indie Sales.
Feast is selected for the International New Talent Competition. The film is produced by seriousFilm and sales is handled by Square Eyes. Feast is a bold and provocative film that skillfully reflects the questions of life, death and morality that have emerged from one of the most disquieting stories in contemporary Dutch life. Unfolding over seven individual vignettes, each directed by Tim Leyendekker but shot in collaboration with a diverse range of cinematographers, Feast blends reportage and surrealism, disbelief and empathy to unpack the repercussions and reverberations of a singularly shocking series of events.
