US based Dutch producer Sofia Sondervan-Bild is in the running for an Oscar in the category Best Live Action Short Film.
The Letter Room (2020) is directed by Danish director Elvira Lind and produced by Sofia Sondervan-Bild for Dutch Tilt Film together with Mad Gene Media and streaming service Topic. The short fiction film stars Oscar Isaac (Star Wars, Dune) in the role of a kind-hearted prison officer who gets transferred to the letter room and soon gets involved in an inmate’s personal affairs. It had it’s world premiere at the 2020 edition of Tribecca Film Festival and selections for HollyShorts Film Festival, Palm Springs International ShortsFest, and Telluride Film Festival among others followed soon after.
Producer Sofia Sondervan-Bild was born in the Netherlands. She moved to New York to study after finishing high school and subsequently never left. She ’s been living in the US now for many years and has produced several Hollywood features, like for instance Cadillac Records (2008) starring Beyoncé Knowles and The Man Who Knew Infinity (2016) featuring Dev Patel and Jeremy Irons.
On the next project she is producing Sondervan-Bild will be tapping into her Dutch roots. Together with Fox Entertainment she is working on the adaptation of the thriller novel Girl In the Dark (Daglicht) by Dutch writer Marion Pauw.
