An unexpected letter disrupts the lives of elderly couple Maartje and Jaap, forcing them to confront what they've long avoided. Grumpy Jaap and Maartje, who is battling dementia, embark on a road trip to say goodbye to a dying friend in Spain. Along the way, they encounter a changed world, but nevertheless rediscover their shared past through old cassette tapes. Jaap's icy demeanour thaws and the journey makes them face the reality of her dementia, teaching Jaap to care for Maartje in a different way.
