Strong Dutch line-up at DOK.fest München

Dutch cinema is strongly represented at DOK.fest München with no less than eleven (co)productions from the Netherlands selected for various sections of the festival. DOK.fest München takes place online 5-23 May 2021.

Legendary Dutch director Heddy Honigmann is featured at the festival with two of her documentaries. Her latest film No Hay Camino – There Is No Path, will have its European premiere in the DOK.international Competition. The film recently world premiered at Hotdocs. Furthermore, Honigmann’s film 100UP is presented in the DOK.panorama section of the festival. Both documentaries are produced by Pieter van Huystee Film.

In No Hay Camino, Heddy Honigmann will go on a real and spiritual journey. Faced with a terminal illness, she travels through Peru and Holland confronting a family history filled with pain and joy. Along the way she will reconnect with her earlier films such as Metal and Melancholy, O Amor Natural, Underground Orchestra and Crazy.

Also selected for the DOK.international Competition is Dark Rider (dir: Eva Küpper), minority co-produced by Volya Films. The film will celebrate its world premiere at the festival. Dark Rider features Ben Felten who wants to break the world record and become the fastest blind motorcyclist in the world.

Shadow Game, directed by Eefje Blankevoort & Els van Driel (prod: Witfilm) will celebrate its international premiere in the DOK.panorama section of the festival. The film is a journey through the dark side of Europe with teenage refugees as our guides. ‘The game’ is their bitterly ironic term for trying to cross borders. Shadow Game is a transmedia project consisting of the feature-length documentary, a short doc web series, an adventure game and a photo series. The film had it’s world premiere at Movies that Matter.

Other Dutch docs screening in this section are: Erwin Olaf – The Legacy by Michiel van Erp (prod: De Familie Film & TV), White Cube, directed by Renzo Martens (prod: Pieter van Huystee Film) and Skies above Hebron by Paul King & Esther Hertog (prod: DOXY).

Furthermore, Here we move, here we Groove by Sergej Kreso (prod: DOXY) is selected for the DOK.music section and Silence of the Tides, directed by Pieter-Rim De Kroon (prod: Windmill) will screen in Best of Fests.

Lastly, two short documentaries will screen in DOK.education: Anne Flies (Anne vliegt, 2010), directed by Catherine van Campen (prod: Zuidenwind) and Jano & Shiro, a Brothers’ Journey, by Eefje Blankevoort & Els van Driel (prod: Prospektor). The latter is also part of the Shadow Game transmedia project.
