Four Dutch VR works and two animated shorts are off to Austin to attend South by Southwest.

XR Experience Competition
Interactive creation Soul Paint (prod. Monobanda) by Niki Smit and Sarah Ticho is world premiering in the XR Experience Competition. Participants are taken on a journey to explore the relationship between their body and emotions. Through the process of bodymapping, 3D drawing and movement, they are invited to reveal their unique inner reality and then observe the creations of others.
XR Experience Spotlight
Three Dutch films are part of XR Experience Spotlight: The Imaginary Friend*** by Steye Hallema (prod. Studio Biarritz), Shadowtime*** (prod. Institute of Time) by Sister Sylvester (Kathryn Hamilton) & Deniz Tortum and Songs for a Passerby*** (prod. Silbersee) by Celine Daemen. All three world premiered in Venice Immersive Competition, where Songs for a Passerby received the Grand Prize. In the lead up to Venice, SEE NL interviewed the directors about their films. Animated Short Competition
The Animated Short Competition includes Nina Gantz’ Wander to Wonder * (NL co-prod. Circe Film and Kaap Holland Film) and the Dutch co-production Beautiful Men * (Ka-Ching Cartoons) by Belgian director Nicolas Keppens.
Wander to Wonder, in which three miniature actors are left alone in the studio after their creator dies, world premiered in Venice Orizzonti (read the SEE NL interview), was awarded Best Short at Seminci (Spain) and took home the Grand Prix for Best International Short Film at Anima in Brussels last weekend.
Beautiful Men - which also won an award in Brussels: Best Belgian Short Film - will have its international premiere in Austin and shows three balding brothers who travel to Istanbul to get a hair transplant. The film was previously selected for the International Competition at Clermont-Ferrand. Before heading there, Joost van den Bosch and Erik Verkerk of Ka-Ching Cartoons told SEE NL why they boarded Keppens’ dynamic new short film.
