Mark suffers from an intense form of self-hatred, which translates into neglect and both chilling and destructive behaviour. He lives in an equally destructive and hateful town. The only exception is his dying grandfather who lives in a care home, where Mark meets Lisa, a nurse. A loving but bizarre bond develops between them. His behaviour liberates her from her angelic facade but, as importantly, her behaviour holds up a mirror to Mark. Their bizarre bond, however, slowly starts to spin out of control.
